The Art of Nick Lewis

Capturing the Immensity of our World

Oil paintings that evoke a sense of scale and awe inspired by our natural world.

Meet the Artist

Many times throughout my life, I have asked myself questions about “what makes me, “me”. Although many of those questions are still a struggle to answer at times, one answer has been obvious for quite some time: God has made me a “maker”. I love to use my hands to create something that has use and value to it. Whether that use and value is for me or someone else. In every job I’ve had, I’ve been able to make something. Everything from painting houses, t-shirts, signs, print materials, software, and especially art.

Artist’s often say that art is a “window into another world”. For me, I have found that art serves more as a window out of our digital world into the real one. I’ve spent a large majority of my life staring at a screen whether it be for entertainment, education, or work and I create art as a way to escape that digital world and reconnect with our physical one God blessed us with. I am particularly drawn to creating landscapes because they have the power to evoke that sense of vastness, of something larger than ourselves. A well-crafted landscape can remind us of the “bigness” of the world around us, and by extension, the enormity of God as a maker himself. My hope is that my art offers a visual experience that shifts the viewer’s perspective, inviting them into a space that encourages reflection, tranquility, and awe—a space that feels like a sigh of relief or a deep, refreshing breath of air.
